I don't keep up with node end ES version compliance but is there a scheduled release that'll target all ES6 features?

I don't think so. They try as hard as possible. A lot of it is directly related to V8. In Node.JS v8.0.0 nightly they currently support 70% of the ES2015 spec without flags.

You can check the progress here: http://node.green/

According to the site:

Node.js ES2015 Support is at 99% for v8.0.0 nightly.

Node.js ES2017 Support is at 74% for v8.0.0 nightly.

Oh right I totally missed that the header changes as you scroll !

Wow, me neither. The discoverability there is pretty poor... if the header was just augmented with a dropdown, that would be great :)

Strictly speaking, tail call optimization is an ES6 feature. I had the impression that its implementation in V8 is on hold, so it might be a while.

Just to make sure I have this right, this has to do with the _amount_ of files in their repo and not the _size_ of the files? So projects like git annex and LFS would not help the speed of the git repos?

That's how I read it, that this is about monorepos with file trees with large numbers of files where users don't necessary need every single file in their local worktree to get work done.

I'd assume this GVFS would work hand in hand with Git LFS for the use case of large files.

I haven't quite looked but is there a timeline for when compiler plugins will be stabilized? Interested in using serde but would prefer using macros

Not an exact timeline, but it's something that's being actively worked on. There's even an RFC: https://github.com/rust-lang/rfcs/pull/1566

I have this exact machine with an i7 and do not get anywhere as low as 2 hours. Do you have bumblebee installed? It sounds like you might have the dedicated graphics runnign at all times, which is the case if you don't have e bumblebee + bbswitch installed.

This depends on the distribution. Fedora for example has GPU switching using PRIME working fairly well and automatically disabled the dGPU by default.

Wasn't aware of that, though the current performance of nouveau is pretty horrendous. At least for newer cards. It's a bit unfortunate but to essentially have a working card you must have the proprietary drivers installed.

Got an error: "There was an error parsing that key. Check that the key is valid and try again." Cool.

Edit: It seems to like my key now...?

I've been signing my commits for at least a year now so it's nice that they added this. I think it adds another layer of author verification other than maybe SoB.

Don't waste your time, they don't know what they're talking about. I've found most people that complain about ABI breakage usually don't.

The writing in this leads me to believe that this person knows very little about how operating systems work, or what they even are.
