I am always fascinated by these concerns. The data available on you today (financial history, social data, search histories) is more complete, concrete and actionable than one's genomics data. I say this as someone who works in this area.

You can change your credit score, social circles or what you search. Your genome is frozen in time and is passed down to your children.

"I have lost all my privacy already and this is another dataset that I have no say over so why fight? You are powerless regardless. Oh and I work for the companies that benefit from your data."

Today it's more actionable. In the future, maybe not. And not only is the person signing up, but he or she is also signing up his/her offspring.

A lot of these datasets have been available for some time: https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/new-aws-public-data-sets-tc.... Perhaps what is most surprising is that the list hasn't grown a ton since then.

As someone who has spent a considerable amount of time on data that has ended up on this page, I think the fact that the list hasn't grown says more about the priorities of other companies than of AWS. Amazon doesn't (yet) have time to build and maintain these datasets themselves: they work with others to build and maintain it and then fund the storage and transmission fees.

I helped build the Terrain Tiles dataset as part of Mapzen, which recently shut down. The OpenStreetMap data exists on the AWS Public Datasets page because it's useful to Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team. If you're able to convince your company to generate and work with a public dataset, consider reaching out to the AWS and Google public datasets teams to get it hosted and publicized.

In my experience, the list that AWS keeps on their public page isn't completely up to date. There are two major datasets in the neuroimaging community that are hosted in S3 (see my comment elsewhere on this page), but AWS hasn't widely publicized this fact for some reason.

Blackfynn | Engineers (Full Stack, Front End) | Philadelphia | Full-time, On Site | http://blackfynn.com

We're a life sciences software startup building a data management and analysis platform which integrates complex scientific and clinical data. We're a driven, curious group of engineers building something that has a meaningful impact. Our mission is bold, our team is experienced, and our product is ambitious. We're looking for engineers and data scientists to help us bring it to life.

We love individuals who are curious about domains outside of the ones we normally operate in, enjoy polyglot codebases, consider themselves a generalist, and desire to work on products that make a positive impact. The bar for software in this field is, unfortunately, low. We want to change that in a massive way.

Today our stack includes the following (it's constantly evolving, we're right tool for the job people):

* Languages: Scala, Python, Javascript

* Frameworks: Scalatra, Akka, Flask, Polymer, D3

* Datastores: Redis, Postgres (RDS), Hbase, Kinesis

* Infrastructure: AWS, Kubernetes, Docker

* Domains: Scientific Research (Neuroscience, Genomics, Imaging), Clinical Research, Healthcare Informatics

We're well funded and have excellent traction on a number of significant partnerships. The product team is a great crew, pragmatic, super bright, without egos, and passionate about our work. Our code is well tested and structured.

I'll just leave this here, sans comment.

Listen, I'm sure this complete nonsense. I mean, Google has resource group called “Greyglers,” they clearly care about age. You can't make this stuff up =) http://www.google.com/diversity/at-google.html#tab=greyglers

Didn't they create that in response to the previous ageism lawsuit?

Yes, you should =)

Thanks for your kind words and support!

LOL, just seemed like a big assumption.

To sum up your blog post more succinctly -- being productive is a skill like anything else, it takes time to develop.

Responding to inspiration quickly is one aspect of that skill, but it's not the only one.

Author here. Thanks so much for your kind and encouraging words. Happy New Year!

You should consider what he said though, because your description does read like delusions of grandeur.

Everyone in America is a temporarily embarrassed millionaire. Everyone in the startup world is a temporarily embarrassed Steve Jobs.

Not everyone. Generally those who are not temporarily embarrassed become the millionaires and Steve Jobs.

I would bet this is a successful strategy even with as tongue in cheek as it sounds.

The problem is thus: one should, when found to be in alignment with the mainstream, or in other words, part of a monoculture, ask themselves whether they have probed deeply enough into the question of how one should live a life, for true wisdom is rare by nature, and if one follows common wisdom, one is most likely in error.

I do not believe I am in error. I've run a diagnostic and all of my sub-systems are functioning correctly.

I use my CV the same way as you. I enjoyed the post, but don't appreciate you sharing the technique with the rest of this lot. :-)

I appreciated the blog post, your about-us page, and this comment.

Cheers. Look out for Season 2 in April!
