I do not know whether the author reads this, but I need to applaud the writing. Either the author is extremely talented and wrote this in one quick sitting or else there has been a lot of revisions to get it this short and concise. I aspire to be able to write like this - so really good job author!

Without Me is a tirade on how press and tv treated Eminem at the time, btw. The (literally) murderous lyrics on his first big album, the fact he was white... The establishment really loved to hate him.
Sometimes I wonder how people can actually enjoy songs that are so utterly linked to their times.
> Sometimes I wonder how people can actually enjoy songs that are so utterly linked to their times.
Because they are linked to their times. That song teleports me back to the best parts of high school, particularly my then girlfriend who was obsessed with Eminem.
> Sometimes I wonder how people can actually enjoy songs that are so utterly linked to their times.
Because it sounds good and the more times change, the more they stay the same.
Also, almost every song, every work of art is inextricably tied to their times. From the Bible to Shakespeare to Bach to Prince and Eminem. You can enjoy a work of art in any time, but you can't truly understand it without understanding the context.
And yeah, the first thought that came to mind when I read the title was eminem's without me. Truly, great minds think alike.
Depends on your goal. You could also keep your diet consistent and do more exercise to produce a deficit. If your goal is longevity, then this may be a viable option. If your goal is to be faster, stronger or bigger, then this is probably not the right approach.
But reading article the conclusion seems to be that we simply do not know enough about how this all works. Giving absolute ranges of calories also seems like the wrong approach. There are differences in sex, in height in activity levels etc. etc. etc.
Would someone on a 2000 calorie diet who was moderately active fare better than someone on a 2500 calorie diet who was more active? I do not think we have the answer to that.
I love that your analogy hit me so hard that I came to question my iPhone SE. I think the main issue for me is that I have not found a better alternative elsewhere. There are some interesting locked down and privacy focused variants of Android, but I am not sure I could use them with the banking and personal ID apps that are almost "required" unless I have to jump through additional hoops daily.
But thought provoking analogy - and thanks for that!
It doesn't work for everything, but many banks will have a website you can use just fine from the phone's browser. If you're trying to do full payments with the phone that won't work of course, but if you get a physical credit card/debit card you can (usually) do everything else with the mobile site. This is what I do for my Graphene OS phone
I work on old motorcycles and cars. I do photography both digital and analog. Then I lift weights and finally I read a lot which also leads to me writing a bit about the interests that I have.
My own toughts on this is that it is hard to quantify. The end result of a quantity-related goal should be to spend more time reading and not necessarily reading more books. Finishing a book can take anywhere from a day to a several months. If you are too focussed on the quantity you risk selecting shorter and more shallow books to reach your quota. So my unscientific goal for the last many years has been around 12 books a year. Which I have been able to keep up for the last many years[0]. That is enough to keep me reading and not soo may that it would run the risk of impacting which book to read next.
With regards to having too many books to read then consider two facts. One is that there is no price or gain from having read a book if only for the fact of having to say so. Reading is not the same as understanding or learning. Second, interests change what you want to read today is not the same as you want to read in a month or year. So perhaps your list of books you want to read today is 100 books or more, but perhaps that list is reduced to 20 books by just waiting a year or two - who knows.
Don't stress about it - there is nothing to gain from that.
