I studied the atomic bombings extensively in college and it seemed abundantly clear that the decision to drop the bombs was barbaric and unnecessary. The question of whether or not the Japanese offered to surrender before is largely irrelevant too considering the Imperials’ disregard for civilian wellbeing. The military impact of the bombings was quite low.
