I am a law and order conservative, but this seems unwise to me. I would be open to either life imprisonment or the death penalty for manufacturing or importing more than a kg of fentanyl, though.

I am not sure I agree with it either but I've seen our current polices being terrible and easily viewed by the public. I am not surprised that a conservative candidate is suggesting this.

Average Canadians, even non average Canadians are not running around with large amounts of fentanyl. The bigger fentanyl court cases in my area ended up with a few people dead and the dealers getting very low sentences. These were not helpless poor people but drug dealers with nice cars wearing gold, hard for me to find pity on them.

I predict we'll have an American politician pursue a Singapore-style death penalty for fentanyl this year, perhaps at the state level first.

1g = 1000mg

40mg = 0.04g

Hope they have enough spaces in those prisons

Just to bring some context around what fentanyl weights.

- Fentanyl is ~100 times more potent than morphine

- 2mg can kill

- Medical use is around 100ug/hour for patches
