90% of software does run on Linux, but if the software you really care about/need for your job/need for your hobby doesn't, then it might as well be 0%. You are going to use Windows then.
In some cases, you might be able to find (or write) an alternative program (or modify an existing one to do what is needed). This is not always so easy, but sometimes it can be done, and it can sometimes be done better than the Windows version. (It is what I did with the one Windows program I did want to run on Linux.)
